ABOUT
Resident Directors (RDs) are an integral part of the TJC Residential Life and Housing Department. The RD is a part-time paraprofessional staff member whose primary responsibility is to supervise the complete operation of a residence hall or assist a full-time Coordinator with the supervision of a larger hall. The RD articulates to students and staff the philosophy and policies of the Residential Life and Housing Department at Tyler Junior College with enthusiasm and support while representing the Department as a role model in all facets of college life. RDs receive a furnished apartment (including all utilities, cable, and wi-fi), a board plan, and a monthly stipend (significant monetary value) for their work, requiring on-campus residency in an assigned apartment.
Renewable contract opportunity: Eligible for renewal for up to two additional academic years post-hiring, with a possible total eligibility of three academic years based on departmental needs and job performance. Initial contract term: August 1, 2025 - May 15, 2026 with the potential for renewal.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Primary Responsibilities
Must return to campus before the halls open for training each semester and must remain after the halls close to help with closing activities. RDs are required to stay until they are released by their supervisor each semester unless they are on-call during that time.
Conduct your personal and professional life as a role model and a 24-hour representative of TJC and the Residential Life and Housing Department.
Maintain good standing with the College and the Residential Life and Housing Department. Follow all laws, College and residence hall policies.
Understand, support, follow, enforce, and educate students and staff about the following:
Residential Hall Handbook
Housing contract
Student Code of Conduct
Respect and maintain appropriate student and staff confidentiality at all times.
Maintain ongoing communication with all Residential Life staff members.
Display a positive, professional attitude and support towards students, staff, and the Residential Life and Housing Department.
Handle stressful situations and work under pressure.
Be able to respond and communicate effectively and immediately to all emergency and/or life-threatening situations.
Develop a holistic programming/community building program in the hall.
Supervise the Entire Operation of the Residence Hall:

Work Environment: This is an 18 hour per week part-time job, in addition to on-call responsibilities (hall availability and on-call are accounted for in the room, board and utilities part of the compensation; RDs are expected to be in their halls regularly including overnight with a maximum of two weekends [4- or 5-day equivalent] away per month unless alternate arrangements are made with the supervising professional staff member). Weekends away/time off must be requested in advance and approved by the supervisor or the ADRL.
Physical Demands: Work involves walking, standing, lifting (up to ~35 lbs.), sitting, pushing, bending, and repetitive typing.
Travel Required: No
If travel is required, candidate must have and maintain a current valid Texas driver's license and an acceptable driving record

Required Experience
Minimum of two semesters of Resident Assistant or related leadership experience.

RETIREMENT
Part-Time Retirement
Part-time employees are required to participate in the part-time retirement fund. The retirement fund is invested in a group fixed annuity contract with Ohio National Life Insurance Company. The plan will provide you and your beneficiary with fully vested cash settlement or income benefits after termination of employment for any reason.
