MRCE is in search of a Resident Engineer who is ready to kickstart their career with a leading engineering consulting company in New York City. Our Resident Engineers are exposed to various geotechnical foundation challenges, providing opportunities to learn from experienced engineers and leadership and tackle technical challenges on complex engineering projects. At MRCE, we are dedicated to combining your academic training with engineering judgment to provide a solid engineering experience and develop strong technical skills.Job ResponsibilitiesConduct site visits and available information research for new opportunitiesPerform pre and post condition surveys of buildings and structuresWork under supervision of design engineers or project managersRead and interpret construction drawings, specifications and RFIs; communicate any discrepancies or conflicts in the field in accordance with the design documentsPerform subsurface investigations including inspecting and logging borings, field soil classifications, test pits, cone penetration probes, and various field testingPerform inspections for new foundation construction, including deep and shallow foundations, subgrade preparation, support of excavation structures, underpinning systems, and pile load testsMaintain daily logs and forms, and communicate investigation or construction progress with the project managerAssist in preparing inspection logs and reports for construction approval and Code compliancePerform instrumentation monitoring for buildings, transit facilities, etc., including seismographs and crack gaugesAssist Instrumentation Engineers with instrument installs in buildings or subways as neededPerform other duties as requestedTravel RequirementsTravel locally by car or public transportationTravel long‑distance by train or air travel for extended staysInspection needs are not full‑time at one site; may require visits to several sites in one week or one day. Some assignments may require daily commute to areas outside of urban centersResident Engineer team utilizes the MRCE office between work assignments. Daily commute to and from the office is not reimbursed; costs above that amount are reimbursed (tolls, mileage, etc.), but travel time is determined case by caseTypical Physical Demands and Work EnvironmentNavigate job site/field environment as well as an office environmentRemain stationary for extended periods or move often depending on project needsLift and carry equipment up to 50 lbsPosition self in stooping, kneeling, or crouching manner and climb ladders and stairs for reading instrumentsNavigate uneven ground and footing conditions (soil/gravel/mud footing, riprap and slopes, rugged terrain)Work in varying weather conditions (cold, hot, rain, snow)Wear gloves, use hands, handle or feel objects, tools, machinery and computersCommunicate with others; exchange information accuratelyOperate specialized equipment and instrumentsWork in varying noise levels in the construction work environmentQualificationsBachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program0–5 years of experience in a similar roleProfessional Engineer, Engineer in Training, or registered for PE/FE examinationReadiness to spend a majority of time in the field for short or long‑term projectsExcellent written and verbal communication skillsCapable of working independently and collaborating with a teamCapable of professionally representing themselves and the company on sites and with clientsBenefits and CompensationBase Salary Range: $65,000 – $80,000 . Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, market conditions, education/training, certifications and credentials. This position is eligible for straight‑time overtime and participation in the firm's annual bonus and performance review program.
