The City of Hampton's Office of the Assessor of Real Estate is seeking motivated individuals to fill three Appraiser positions within our organization. Whether youre just beginning or have prior experience, we offer opportunities to join our team as a Residential Appraiser I, II, or III depending on your qualifications. This office is a recipient of the Certificate of Excellence in Assessment Administration from the International Association of Assessing Officers and is dedicated to providing quality and efficient services to Hamptons residents and commercial owners. Position Levels & Responsibilities
### Appraiser I
The purpose of the class is to research, collect, analyze, calculate, and prepare information to arrive at a fair and equitable appraisal of the value of residential real estate. The class works under close supervision, according to set procedures.
- Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED
- One (1) year of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience preferred
- Successful completion of two (2) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA)
- Virginia Appraiser License preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
- Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion
- Additional Requirements:
- May require some local travel
- The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules
### Appraiser II
The purpose of the class is to research, collect, analyze, calculate, and prepare information to arrive at a fair and equitable appraisal of the value of residential real estate. The class works under close supervision, according to set procedures.
- Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associates degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Two (2) years of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience preferred
- Successful completion of two (2) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA)
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position
- Virginia appraiser license preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria

### Appraiser III
The purpose of the class is to perform complex real estate appraisals on land and residential properties and/or as assigned which may include some commercial properties. Serves as a lead appraiser and provides assistance to less experienced appraisers. The class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.
- Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required
- Associates degree in Real Estate, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field is preferred
- Three (3) years of experience appraising real estate and/or assessment experience required
- Successful completion of three (3) basic pre-license courses in real estate appraising from a recognized appraisal organization such as Appraisal Institute (AI), International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), or American Society of Appraisers (ASA)
- A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position
- Virginia appraiser license preferred
- Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria
