Residential Coordinator

Company Description Shelter House, Inc. is a community-based, non-profit organization that supports families experiencing homelessness and survivors of domestic violence in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, Virginia. Founded in 1981 by several ecumenical groups, the organization was created to better serve low-income residents of Fairfax County. Shelter House has expanded its services over time, moving to its current Falls Church location in 1985 and taking on the operation of the Katherine K. Hanley Family Shelter in Fairfax in 2007. In 2010, Shelter House became the first non-profit to operate Artemis House, Fairfax County’s only 24-hour domestic violence shelter. The organization is committed to providing safe housing, compassionate support, and pathways to stability for individuals and families in crisis.

Role Description The Residential Coordinator is a full-time, on-site role based in Fairfax, VA, responsible for overseeing daily operations within the residential program. This position coordinates resident services, ensures a safe and supportive living environment, and supports program implementation in alignment with Shelter House’s mission and policies. Day-to-day tasks include supervising residential staff, scheduling shifts, assisting with intake and discharge processes, and maintaining accurate records and documentation. The Residential Coordinator collaborates with case managers and other team members to support individualized service plans, facilitate group activities, and connect residents with appropriate community resources. This role also helps develop and refine residential programming, conducts staff training, and ensures compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.

• Demonstrated supervisory skills, including staff oversight, scheduling, and performance feedback.

• Strong communication skills, including clear verbal and written communication and effective interpersonal abilities.

• Experience with program development and training, particularly in residential or social services settings.
• \n
• Knowledge of developmental disabilities and the ability to support residents with diverse needs in a trauma-informed, person-centered manner.

• Prior experience in homelessness services, domestic violence advocacy, social work, or related human services fields preferred.
• \n
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain detailed documentation, and follow agency policies and procedures.

• Proficiency with basic computer applications and case management or database systems.
• \n
• Relevant education such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, human services, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
