Residential Faculty | Philosophy

The Philosophy faculty member will provide instruction in philosophy courses to a broad and multifaceted student population while contributing to Phoenix Colleges learning-centered environment. This individual will engage and motivate students to promote their success by teaching courses across a variety of modalities and incorporating different teaching strategies, assessment methods, and technologies. The faculty member will occasionally supervise and mentor students in independent study projects.

Additionally, the faculty member will provide discipline-related leadership in the area of Philosophy, including but not limited to curriculum development, and the coordination, evaluation, and mentorship of adjunct instructors.

The anticipated start date for this position is Spring 2027.

Essential Functions

Teach a variety of undergraduate Philosophy (PHI) courses to a multifaceted student population. Teaching responsibilities include:

• Create and distribute course syllabi that satisfy Maricopa Colleges requirements.
• Create and deliver engaged, meaningful learning activities designed to help students successfully master course content.
• Supervise and mentor students in independent study projects or service learning projects.
• Be present for all scheduled class meetings.
• Maintain online and on-campus office hours to provide academic support and advising to students.
• Assess student performance on learning activities and provide timely feedback to support learning. Submit final letter grades by stated college due dates each semester.

Provide course leadership in the area of PHI including but not limited to:

• Developing, revising, and maintaining PHI course curriculum.
• Working with the LASS Department Chair to schedule PHI course offerings.
• Coordinate, evaluate, and mentor adjunct instructors as needed in the PHI discipline.
• Engage in the academic life of Phoenix College by participating in LASS and campus activities.
• These activities include support of and engagement with faculty and support colleagues; attendance at all department meetings; participation in campus activities; and service on one or more College committees.
