Job Responsibilities

This position is working in our Residential Treatment Programs within the Kent County Juvenile Detention Center. The successful candidate will provide a variety of therapeutic and casework services to juveniles and their families. These services include interviewing, conducting psychosocial assessments of youth, developing treatment and/or intervention plans, facilitating programs, community service, monitoring participation and progress to ensure compliance with court orders and providing individual, group and family counseling services. Other duties include, but are not limited to, formulating Initial Service Plans, preparing hearing reports, conducting home visits, making recommendations to Judges, testifying in court and working with community agencies and schools to assist clients with reentry back into the community.

Non-traditional hours are required as programming dictates.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Sociology, Psychology, Criminal Justice or related field and a minimum of one year experience working with delinquent youth in a human service position. Working knowledge of developmental and child psychology, family dynamics, behavioral disorders and appropriate interventions required. Computer literacy, organization skills, attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to interact positively and objectively, and communicate effectively with delinquent juveniles, parents, other family members and concerned parties from a wide variety of backgrounds is essential.

Requires access to transportation while performing the duties of the job and a valid, unrestricted Michigan drivers license.

Masters degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling and two years of casework in a juvenile court or related child welfare agency is strongly preferred.
