Schedule: Monday–Friday with flexibility for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and peak moving seasons
About the Position
We are looking for an experienced Residential Operations Manager to oversee daily residential moving and storage operations. This position is responsible for coordinating moving crews, scheduling jobs, managing labor, supporting warehouse operations, and making sure customers receive reliable, professional service from start to finish.
The Residential Operations Manager will spend time in the office, warehouse, and field, working closely with dispatch, customer service, warehouse, fleet, safety, and operations teams to keep residential moving operations running smoothly.
This is a hands-on management position for someone who is comfortable leading crews, solving problems, managing changing schedules, and stepping in to help with daily operations when needed.
Key Responsibilities
Residential Moving Operations
- Oversee daily residential moving operations, including local moves, long-distance moves, and storage services.
- Coordinate residential moving jobs from scheduling through completion.
- Make sure moving crews have the equipment, labor, vehicles, and information needed for each job.
- Monitor residential moving crews to ensure jobs are completed safely, efficiently, and professionally.
- Maintain high standards for customer service and overall customer experience.
- Address operational issues quickly and communicate updates to customers and internal teams when needed.
Scheduling, Dispatch & Daily Operations
- Manage the daily scheduling and coordination of residential moving crews.
- Work closely with Dispatch and Customer Service to confirm job details, schedules, crew assignments, and special requirements.
- Adjust staffing and resources when schedules or customer needs change.
- Monitor daily moving operations and make adjustments to keep jobs on schedule.
- Help resolve scheduling, staffing, equipment, and transportation issues.
Warehouse, Inventory & Storage
- Work with the Residential Warehouse Manager to maintain warehouse readiness.
- Oversee the coordination of residential storage and ensure inventory is properly tracked.
- Review inventory records and audits and help resolve discrepancies.
- Ensure moving supplies, equipment, and materials are available for scheduled jobs.
- Coordinate between warehouse and field teams to support efficient residential moving operations.
Crew & Labor Management
- Assign and manage residential moving crews based on workload, experience, and job requirements.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, performance, and labor utilization.
- Review and approve employee timesheets before payroll submission.
- Make sure employees accurately complete daily timekeeping requirements.
- Coach employees and crew leaders on performance, customer service, safety, and company expectations.
- Address attendance and performance concerns professionally and promptly.
Driving & Transportation
- Minimum of 2 years of commercial driving experience required.
- Must be comfortable driving commercial moving vehicles and assisting with transportation needs when necessary.
- May operate company vehicles to support residential moving operations, deliveries, pickups, or staffing needs.
- Ensure vehicles are used safely and according to company and DOT requirements.
- Work with Fleet and Safety teams to address vehicle or transportation concerns.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce company safety policies and OSHA safety requirements.
- Promote safe lifting, loading, unloading, packing, and material-handling practices.
- Review property damage, employee incidents, customer claims, and other operational issues.
- Work with Fleet and Safety teams to reduce accidents, damages, and safety concerns.
- Ensure residential moving crews follow proper procedures when handling customer belongings.
Customer Service & Quality
- Monitor customer feedback and identify recurring service issues.
- Respond to operational concerns and work toward timely resolutions.
- Review damages, complaints, and claims related to residential moving services.
- Coach moving crews on professionalism, communication, and customer service.
- Help maintain consistent service quality across all residential moving jobs.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, coach, and develop residential operations staff, crew leaders, and moving crews.
- Set clear expectations for productivity, safety, attendance, and customer service.
- Hold employees accountable while maintaining a positive and professional work environment.
- Communicate regularly with senior leadership regarding staffing, scheduling, customer service, and residential operations.
- Help train new employees and support ongoing development of the residential operations team.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of commercial driving experience required.
- 3–5 years of experience in residential moving, logistics, transportation, or operations management.
- Previous experience supervising employees, crews, drivers, or field staff.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple residential moving jobs and priorities at the same time.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work in an office, warehouse, and field environment.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred
- Experience managing residential moving crews.
- Experience with moving, storage, logistics, dispatch, or transportation operations.
- Experience coordinating warehouse inventory and storage.
- Familiarity with scheduling and dispatch systems.
- Knowledge of residential moving claims and damage resolution.
- OSHA and workplace safety knowledge.
- Experience with fleet coordination and commercial vehicles.
Work Environment
This position requires a combination of office, warehouse, and field work. The Residential Operations Manager should be comfortable being hands-on with daily operations and working directly with moving crews, drivers, customers, warehouse staff, and leadership.
The position may require early mornings, evenings, weekends, and additional hours during busy moving seasons.
