The duties include but are not limited to:
• Serves as a resource to local school staff and student groups relative to safety and security. • Identifies and establishes constructive dialogue with known or suspected juvenile offenders. • Immediately reports all felony offenses occurring on school property to the appropriate law enforcement agency having jurisdiction and all other offenses as required by the Student Code of Conduct. • Assists the different law enforcement agencies in providing follow up investigations on crimes involving employees, students, property, etc. • Prepares reports and other statistical data relative to school safety or security. • Furnishes copies of pertinent reports to appropriate law enforcement agencies in those cases where arrests result from the investigation. • Maintains liaison with the following: • Local law enforcement agencies having jurisdiction of respective school • School principals and student leaders • Parent and teacher organizations • Area social agencies • Participates in parent and/or student conferences when it pertains to criminal activity or upon request of local school administrators. • Promotes a law-abiding atmosphere on school campuses. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Security.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be a graduate from a four-year SACS accredited college. A degree in the study of criminal justice or a criminal justice related field is preferred.
Must have a minimum of three years of formal law enforcement or law enforcement related experience.
Must have completed the Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commissions (A.P.O.S.T.C.) program and received certification for the same or training and certification of like kind.
Must have a functional working knowledge of the criminal justice and judicial systems.
Must have a functional working knowledge of the criminal codes of Alabama.
Must be able to competently operate a computer utilizing Microsoft Office and competently navigate the internet.
Criminal investigation experience in the areas of juvenile crime, substance abuse, crime, personal crime, and property crime is preferred.
Patrol and/or first responder experience preferred.
Must be a self-motivator requiring a minimal amount of supervision.
Must possess the qualities and traits that reflect favorably on the Resource Officer Program and the Mobile County Public School System.
Duty Days: 260 Salary Range: $56,428.00 - $56428.00
Additional Job Information
Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
