Position Overview
This role involves conducting diagnostic evaluations of pulmonary function for patients experiencing respiratory challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct pulmonary function tests and pulmonary stress assessments as directed.
- Monitor and assess patient reactions during and after testing procedures, ensuring accurate documentation and reporting of results.
- Establish reference ranges for tests and interpret the outcomes, identifying and rectifying any invalid results.
- Prepare, maintain, and calibrate pulmonary function testing equipment, ensuring an adequate supply of necessary materials.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and report any required repairs or replacements.
- Provide educational resources and support to patients and their families based on clinical findings.
- Maintain a vigilant and safe working environment.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
QualificationsEducation
An Associate’s degree in Respiratory Care or equivalent experience and education is required.
Experience
No prior experience is necessary.
Physical Demands
- Regular verbal communication is essential for sharing information.
- Frequent standing and walking are required.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, and pushing/pulling of objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
- Regular sitting, reaching, and data entry tasks.
- Frequent visual acuity for both near and far distances, as well as color differentiation.
- Regular use of smell for odor detection and hearing for communication and alertness to alarms.
- Occasional lifting of objects weighing 25-50 lbs and moving patients.
- Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, and other physical movements.
- Rarely required to crawl or run.
Licensure and Certifications
Depending on the state of employment, the following certifications are required:
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
- Respiratory Care Practitioner - relevant state regulatory body
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
- Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist (RPFT) - National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC)
Work Schedule
This position operates on a Day Shift basis.
Employment Type
This is a regular employee position within the Pulmonary Services department, with a scheduled weekly commitment of 24 hours.
