Position Overview

The role of the Respiratory Care Student is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy who have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer medications and treatments to patients under appropriate supervision.
  • Deliver and evaluate patient responses to prescribed therapies.
  • Monitor, document, and communicate changes in patient conditions.
  • Educate patients regarding their diseases, medications, and treatment plans.
  • May participate in Medical Emergencies and Rapid Response situations.
  • Maintain a state of alertness and prioritize safety at all times.
  • Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.
  • Experience: No prior experience is necessary.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly use speech for effective oral communication.
  • Consistently stand and walk throughout the shift.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull objects weighing between 0-25 lbs.
  • Engage in sitting, reaching, and data entry on a keyboard regularly.
  • Utilize vision for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as color differentiation.
  • Employ smell to identify and recognize various odors.
  • Use hearing to receive verbal communication and detect body sounds, alarms, or equipment malfunctions.
  • Occasionally lift or move objects weighing 25-50 lbs and assist in patient mobility.
  • Occasionally perform bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping, and repetitive movements with hands and legs.
  • Occasionally drive as part of job duties.
  • Rarely engage in crawling or running activities.
Licenses and Certifications

    • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
    • Respiratory Educ Permit - Missouri Division of Professional Registration
  • For Oklahoma:
    • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
    • Letter of Acknowledgment of Receipt of Application for Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner - Oklahoma Medical Board
    • Or Provisional Respiratory Care Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
