Position Overview:

The role of Respiratory Care Student is designed for individuals pursuing a degree in Respiratory Therapy who have successfully completed at least one clinical rotation.

Position Summary:

This position involves assessing and providing care for patients requiring respiratory therapy, in alignment with the student's level of training.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications:

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Administers prescribed medications and treatments to patients under appropriate supervision.
  • Delivers therapies and evaluates patient responses.
  • Monitors, documents, and communicates the patient's condition effectively.
  • Educates patients about their conditions, medications, and treatment plans.
  • May assist in medical emergencies and rapid response situations.
  • Maintains a high level of alertness and safety in all activities.
  • Performs additional tasks as assigned.


EDUCATION

  • Currently enrolled in a Respiratory Therapy program.


EXPERIENCE

  • No prior experience is necessary.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Regularly uses speech for effective communication.
  • Constantly stands and walks.
  • Frequently lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls items weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Regularly sits, reaches, and engages in data entry.
  • Frequently utilizes vision for near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) distances, as well as color differentiation.
  • Regularly uses smell to identify and recognize odors.
  • Frequently employs hearing to receive verbal communication and detect alarms or machinery issues.
  • Occasionally lifts, carries, and pushes/pulls items weighing between 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasionally assists in moving patients.
  • Occasionally bends, stoops, kneels, squats, twists, grips, and performs repetitive movements with legs and arms.
  • Occasionally drives.
  • Rarely crawls or runs.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED


For Missouri:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • And
  • Respiratory Education Permit - Missouri Division of Professional Registration


For Oklahoma:

  • Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • And
  • Letter of Acknowledgment of Receipt of Application for Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner - Oklahoma Medical Board
  • Or
  • Provisional Respiratory Care Therapist - Oklahoma Medical Board
