Job Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-focused respiratory care in line with departmental needs and established standards of practice. As an essential member of the healthcare team, you will conduct various diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures while monitoring patients on both invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting and documenting patient assessments, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure, as well as performing diagnostic tests to determine the necessity and effectiveness of respiratory therapy.
  • Administering respiratory therapies, such as oxygen delivery, aerosol medication, and chest physiotherapy.
  • Assisting in the placement of artificial airways and managing mechanical ventilation.
  • Monitoring patients for therapeutic responses and notifying providers of any adverse reactions, intervening as necessary.
  • Assisting in the transport of patients who require ventilatory support.
  • Responding to emergency situations to ensure airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation efforts.
Qualifications Needed:
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
  • Neonate Resuscitation certification to be obtained within six months of starting employment.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification to be obtained within six months of starting employment.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (NBRC-RRT) credential.
  • State Respiratory Therapist/Practitioner license (RRT/RCP).
  • Graduation from a vocational school.
