Job Summary: Responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift.

Responsible for using independent judgment in coordinating the overall functions and activities of the Respiratory Care department on a designated shift to assure successful safe delivery of care.

Facilitates the direction of personnel/clinical activities of the department on the designated shift, serving as a resource/support to the staff, physicians, patients, families, and other departments.

Involved in direct patient care, medication administration, and may take a modified patient assignment.

Implements and monitors PI, Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives for designated shift. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Teamwork and Collaboration * Assures delivery of safe patient care by analyzing patients needs and skill competency level of personnel when making patient assignments * Facilitates interdisciplinary communication and planning to ensure timely care delivery including discharge * Communicates with

manager / Resource RT any needs or concerns pertaining to care delivery or employee performance * Assists in the evaluation of staff, providing input to Resource RT regarding clinical performance, teamwork, etc. of individuals. Resources & Support * Monitors equipment inventory, location and utilization

to ensure staff have tools and equipment needed to perform their job * Participates in planning and requesting resources for providing high quality care * Assists in acquiring appropriate staffing during unexpected staffing shortages or surges in census Exemplary Practice & Outcomes * Rounds on patients to evaluate quality and appropriateness of patient care including corrective action when needed utilizing peer coaching and

accountability * Demonstrates excellence in Respiratory Care practice by providing the highest standard of direct patient care * Participates in implementation and monitoring of

PI, Customer Service, and Safety and Quality initiatives to improve patient care delivery Evidence Based Practice & Research * Maintains current knowledge on evidence based practice and shares knowledge with staff to improve patient care * Participates in monitoring and ensuring compliance with evidence based best practices Professional Development * Maintains current knowledge related to patient population to deliver the highest standard of care * Identifies learning needs of workgroup and communicates needs to clinical educator, manager / Resource RT. * Demonstrates excellence in respiratory care practice by promoting process improvement and committee participation Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all WellStar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education:

Associates Respiratory Therapy or Bachelors Respiratory Therapy-Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
