Novant Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist II to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within our Healthcare & Medical industry-leading system. In this role, you will provide advanced respiratory care to a diverse population of patients across various acuity levels, utilizing evidence-based practices, state-of-the-art technology, and a strong commitment to safety and personalized care. As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, develop and implement appropriate care plans, and deliver a full range of therapeutic interventions, including oxygen therapy, aerosolized medication administration, airway management, non-invasive and invasive mechanical ventilation support, and emergency response for patients experiencing respiratory distress or failure.

Working collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team, you will interpret clinical data, diagnostic tests, and arterial blood gases to make informed decisions and recommendations regarding respiratory care. You will initiate, monitor, and adjust ventilator settings and other respiratory modalities according to established protocols and provider orders, documenting all interventions clearly and accurately in the electronic medical record. You will also participate in rapid response and code blue situations, providing expert respiratory support in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments.

In alignment with Novant Health’s mission of improving health, you will play a key role in patient and family education, explaining respiratory conditions, therapies, and home-care instructions in a compassionate, culturally sensitive manner. You will help patients and caregivers understand equipment use, medication regimens, breathing exercises, and strategies to manage chronic respiratory diseases such as COPD, asthma, and other pulmonary disorders. You will contribute to safe care transitions by communicating effectively with outpatient providers and care coordinators when appropriate.

This position involves practicing within established clinical standards, hospital policies, and regulatory requirements, while actively supporting a culture that values diversity, inclusion, and psychological safety for patients, families, and team members. You will precept or mentor less experienced respiratory therapists and students as needed, helping to build a strong, collaborative team environment and supporting professional development within the department. You will participate in quality improvement initiatives, performance metrics, and the implementation of best practices to enhance patient outcomes, respiratory care efficiency, and patient satisfaction.

The Respiratory Therapist II is expected to maintain clinical competence through ongoing education, skills validation, and participation in staff meetings, in-services, and specialty training. You will demonstrate proficiency in operating a wide range of respiratory therapy equipment, including ventilators, high-flow oxygen systems, CPAP/BiPAP devices, airway clearance tools, and monitoring equipment, ensuring safe setup, troubleshooting, cleaning, and basic maintenance according to infection control standards. You will adhere strictly to safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment, and contribute to a safe work environment for patients and colleagues.

At Novant Health, you will find an environment that encourages innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. You will have the opportunity to work with advanced technologies and evidence-based protocols while being supported by a leadership team committed to your development. The culture at Novant Health emphasizes respect, diversity, and personalized care, allowing you to make a meaningful impact on patient lives every day. By joining our team as a Respiratory Therapist II, you will help advance our mission of improving health across the communities we serve while building a rewarding, long-term career in a dynamic healthcare setting.
