Today
Novant Health is seeking a skilled and compassionate Respiratory Therapist II (RRT) to join our Healthcare & Medical Services team within the Healthcare & Medical Services department. In this advanced respiratory care role, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based respiratory therapy to patients across diverse acuity levels, supporting our mission of improving health through safe, personalized, and patient‑centered care. Working in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, you will evaluate, treat, and manage patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders, using advanced technology and clinical judgment to optimize outcomes.

As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will perform comprehensive respiratory assessments, interpret diagnostic data, and develop and implement individualized respiratory care plans in collaboration with physicians and other members of the care team. You will be responsible for the initiation, monitoring, and adjustment of mechanical ventilation and non‑invasive ventilation, administration of aerosolized medications and therapeutic interventions, airway management support during procedures and emergencies, and the performance and interpretation of arterial blood gas sampling and related testing. You will follow established protocols, clinical guidelines, and safety standards while exercising critical thinking to respond to rapidly changing patient conditions.

You will play a key role in supporting care in critical care units, emergency departments, procedural areas, and general care units, depending on patient needs. Responsibilities include responding promptly to respiratory emergencies and rapid response calls, participating in codes, assisting with advanced airway management, and ensuring the safe operation and troubleshooting of respiratory care equipment. You will maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record, communicate clearly with providers and nursing staff, and contribute to care coordination and discharge planning as it relates to respiratory needs and patient education.

Education is an important part of this role. You will provide instruction and coaching to patients and families on respiratory therapies, equipment use (such as inhalers, CPAP/BiPAP devices, and home oxygen), and disease management strategies for conditions such as COPD, asthma, and other pulmonary disorders. You will help patients understand their treatment plans, reinforce safety practices, and support self‑management to improve long‑term outcomes. You may also assist in educating peers, students, and new team members on respiratory therapy practices, equipment, and protocols.

Within Novant Health’s culture of diversity, safety, and personalized care, you will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills, cultural competence, and a commitment to patient and team member safety. You will actively participate in quality improvement activities, performance initiatives, and evidence‑based practice projects aimed at enhancing respiratory care services and overall patient experience. You will adhere to all regulatory, infection prevention, and safety requirements, and support an environment of respect, inclusion, and collaboration.

This role is well‑suited for an experienced Registered Respiratory Therapist who is comfortable working in a fast‑paced, acute care environment and who seeks opportunities for professional growth. You should bring strong technical skills in mechanical ventilation and cardiopulmonary monitoring, the ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients, and the flexibility to work varying shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed for patient care coverage. In return, you will have the opportunity to work with advanced technology, collaborate with highly skilled clinicians, and contribute meaningfully to improved patient outcomes across the Novant Health system.

Novant Health offers a supportive and innovative workplace where respiratory therapists are valued members of the care team. You will benefit from ongoing education, access to new clinical tools and protocols, and opportunities to develop specialized skills in areas such as critical care, neonatal/pediatric care (where applicable), or pulmonary diagnostics. If you are a motivated RRT who thrives in a collaborative, patient‑focused setting and is committed to continuous learning and high‑quality care, we encourage you to consider this Respiratory Therapist II opportunity at Novant Health.
