Respiratory Therapist LTC

This employee administers respiratory therapy care to long term care residents with abnormalities and deficiencies of the cardiopulmonary system according to physician prescription.

Job Responsibilities:

• • Review prescription and patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment

  • • Determine suitable treatment administration and modifications that may be needed, compatible with physician orders

    • • Set up and operate devices including mechanical ventilators, nebulizers, and/or compressors

      • • Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment such as volume, oxygen concentration, and/or temperature

        • • Monitor patient response to therapy via vital sign and blood chemistry changes

          • • Observe equipment function and adjust equipment to obtain optimal results

            • • Consult with physician in event of adverse reaction

              • • Inspect and test respiratory therapy equipment to ensure it is functioning safely and efficiently

                • • Order repairs when needed

                  • • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees

                    • • Perform staff education at customer facilities

                      • • Perform tracheostomy tube changes

                        
                        
                        

                        Licenses:

                        • • Active State Respiratory Care Practitioner license

                          Education and Experience:

                          • • Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

                            • • Previous related work experience

                              Physical Demands:

                              The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
