Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic and dedicated Respiratory Therapist V to lead and manage our Respiratory Therapy Department. In this key role, you’ll be responsible for overseeing a team of Respiratory Therapists, Technicians, Aides, and clerical staff while ensuring the smooth operation and quality of service across all areas of the department.

As the department manager, you’ll take the lead in managing day-to-day operations, which includes responsibilities such as budget preparation, equipment ordering and maintenance, and supplies requisitioning. You’ll also play a crucial role in the development and execution of department programs, ensuring we meet and exceed our quality assurance standards. Additionally, you’ll supervise the personnel, driving performance and fostering professional growth within the team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Respiratory Therapy team, including recruiting, training, evaluating performance, conducting meetings, and resolving personnel issues. Ensure staff competency through regular testing and performance reviews.
  • Oversee department budget, manage resources, and ensure quality service delivery. Develop and implement quality assurance projects, policies, and procedures to meet regulations and consumer needs.
  • Maintain relationships with other departments, facilitate ongoing staff education, and provide consultation on Respiratory Therapy services to enhance patient care and hospital knowledge.
  • Ensure adherence to state, Medicare, CMS, and JCAHO regulations. Maintain staff credentials, provide culturally competent care, and uphold patient confidentiality and safety standards.
  • Monitor department performance through statistical analysis, contribute to program development, and support staffing needs as a backup therapist when necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP-accredited program; or equivalent combination of education and experience, OR
    • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP-accredited program and 2 years of additional professional experience may be accepted with additional experience or required credentials, OR
    • Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from a CoARC or CAAHEP-accredited program and Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification may substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement
  • Three (3) years of Respiratory Therapist experience under medical supervision.

Licensure & Certifications

  • Valid State of Hawaii Respiratory Therapist license at time of hire
  • Current Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) OR a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential through the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 6 months of hire
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 6 months of employment.

Pre-Employment Health Requirements

Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment examination, which includes a drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, a tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for drug screening and blood draw for QuantiFERON and Titers, shall be borne by the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.
