Respiratory Therapist
The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care to patients of all ages under the direction of a physician. This position evaluates patients, administers treatments, monitors respiratory conditions, and maintains respiratory equipment.
Essential Duties
- Assess patients’ breathing and respiratory needs.
- Administer oxygen, breathing treatments, and respiratory medications.
- Manage ventilators and other life-support equipment.
- Perform diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function and blood gas testing.
- Monitor patients and document treatment results.
- Respond to emergencies and assist with airway management.
- Educate patients and families about respiratory conditions and equipment.
- Clean, inspect, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment.
- Follow hospital policies, safety standards, and infection-control procedures.
- Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
Qualifications
- Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited program.
- Current state Respiratory Therapist license.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential.
- Current BLS certification; ACLS, PALS, or NRP may be required.
- Strong communication, critical-thinking, and patient-care skills.
- Ability to work weekends, holidays, nights, and emergency shifts as scheduled.
