Under the supervision of a licensed respiratory care practitioner (RCP), the Respiratory Therapy Tech will administer noninvasive respiratory care/therapy to patients without artificial airways as ordered by the attending physician; and perform noninvasive diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for, and response to, therapy under the supervision of the supervisor or charge therapist.
Administers andmonitorsrespiratory therapy treatments
Administers therapy according toestablisheddepartmental policy (High Risk/High Volume)
Respondsimmediatelytoemergencycodes and correctly manages the airway and external compressions under the direct supervision of a licensed RCP policy (High Risk/High Volume)
Follows established hospital and departmental infection control policies
Consult Charge Therapist when in doubt about a procedure or situation
Records pertinent information on patient medical record.
Accurately documents all respiratory care interventions during assigned shift (High Risk/High Volume)
Maintains up-to-date departmental records
Enters charges per shift for service performed/provided
Gives knowledgeable andaccurateshift report to oncoming shift
Performs noninvasive diagnostic tests
Performs bedside spirometry and accurately records results
Performs peak flow, inspiratory and expiratoryforceand vital capacity measurements
Monitors pulse oximetry
Perform ECGs as ordered policy (High Risk/Low Volume)
Administers andmonitorscontinuous oxygen therapy
Sets up oxygen new starts according to departmental policy within 20 minutes of notification policy (High Risk/High Volume)
Monitors all continuous oxygen therapy, in the absence of the equipment technician, according to departmental policy.
Performs cleaning, preventive maintenance and calibration of Respiratory Therapy equipment as required.
