Job Description Summary:
The Supervisor is a respiratory therapist that oversees daily operations of the Respiratory Therapy Department. In doing so, he/she manages daily staffing, assigns work equitably and provides clinical interventions when necessary.
The supervisor conducts himself/herself in a professional manner and is courteous to patients, physicians, visitors, members of the department and all other healthcare personnel. The supervisor supports and contributes to departmental productivity and organizational objectives by functioning as a leader of the respiratory care team and performs services consistent with his/her scope of licensure. The incumbent supports and exhibits behaviors consistent with the organization’s mission and values in offering hope and healing to all.
• Delivers respiratory therapy intervention and services as prescribed by the Medical Staff and approved protocols
• Oversees clinical practitioners within the Respiratory Therapy department
• Maintains and managers daily staffing and departmental productivity standards
• Maintains effective and open lines of communication with employees
• Ensures availability and functionality of necessary equipment
• Responds to complaints and/or concerns from internal and external customers
• Oversees departmental clinical competency program for direct reports
• Organizes and implements departmental and clinical orientation of new employees and newly credentialed/licensed employees
Job Description:
Education:
- An Associate Degree in Cardiopulmonary Sciences or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program, or equivalent degree (required)
- For employees serving in this role prior to June 2021, current experience and education level may be considered in lieu of this requirement
- A bachelor’s degree in Respiratory Therapy, or other relevant bachelor’s level degree (preferred)
Experience:
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of respiratory therapy experience in the critical care setting in an acute care or academic medical facility (required)
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years serving in a charge respiratory therapist role (required)
Licensure:
- Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care Mandatory License (required)
Certification:
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) accredited by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) (required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required)
