Redwire Space Missions LLC is seeking a Responsible Systems Engineer – Mechanical Systems to join our team in Littleton, CO. This role is critical to the success of our spacecraft programs and requires a highly skilled, independent, and proactive leader who can own multiple subsystems through the entire system lifecycle while managing technical budgets and design trades. The ideal candidate will have deep experience across all phases of the space systems development lifecycle and thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
 
Responsibilities
  • Lead subsystem-level requirements development, subsystem architecture definition, design maturation, and end-to-end RV&V planning and execution for mechanical systems - Thermal Control Subsystem, Propulsion Subsystem, and Structures & Mechanisms Subsystem.
  • Own and manage subsystem verification and validation strategies, including test planning, test readiness, execution oversight, and closure.
  • Lead technical teams through major program lifecycle events such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and verification closure reviews.
  • Define, manage, and control component, subsystem, and spacecraft interfaces; maintain Interface Control Documents and coordinate cross-functional integration.
  • Plan, facilitate, and document technical reviews and maintain subsystem technical baselines.
  • Support development of test infrastructure including simulations, analytical models, test fixtures, and MGSE/EGSE for hardware and software verification activities.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, including procedures, engineering reports, and requirements artifacts.
  • Provide technical leadership, decision-making support, and day-to-day guidance to subsystem engineers and integrated product teams.
Ideal Experience
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Systems, Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of engineering experience in the space industry.
  • Strong understanding of spacecraft systems engineering lifecycle, including subsystem design, architecture development, integration & test, and mission operations preparation.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and coordinating across disciplines.
  • US Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance.
Desired Skills
  • M.S. degree in Systems Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-8 years of engineering experience with spacecraft
  • Experience supporting or leading NASA/DoD lifecycle reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Proficiency with requirements management tools such as JAMA or DOORS.
  • Familiarity with Ansys STK for modeling and analysis.
  • Experience with MBSE, SysML, and tools such as CAMEO Systems Modeler.
  • Background in spacecraft subsystems engineering and technical execution across development phases.
  • Active DoD Security Clearance.
  • Direct experience with Propulsion, Thermal, and Structures & Mechanisms subsystems
  • Broad-based systems engineering skill set with ability to lead across multiple disciplines.

Pay Range
$107,000 - $140,000/year 

How We Determine What We Pay (Compensation Philosophy)
Redwire determines pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data, for our locations throughout the US. We will evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index, in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth.  Salaries will be based on the applicant’s level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. Additionally, we consider the external market rate, the amount we have budgeted internally, and internal equity within the company for the same position. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
