Retail Director / Area Manager
Location: Birmingham, AL
Target Base Salary: $90,000-$100,000 

Position Overview
Our client, a premium outdoor lifestyle brand is seeking a Retail Director / Area Manager to lead their store fleet and bring the brand to life across all retail locations. This role is ideal for a leader who understands how to build community through retail, develop passionate teams, and drive performance in a premium, service-driven environment.
You’ll serve as both a business leader and brand steward, someone who can balance strong operational discipline with a genuine care for people, product, and place.

What You’ll Own

Multi-Unit Leadership
  • Lead and inspire store managers across all locations, setting a clear vision for performance and culture 
  • Drive accountability around sales, KPIs, and team development 
  • Build a strong bench of talent through thoughtful hiring, coaching, and succession planning 
Client Experience & Community
  • Elevate the in-store experience to feel personal, authentic, and relationship-driven 
  • Foster a clienteling culture that builds long-term customer relationships 
  • Support stores in becoming local hubs for the brand through events, partnerships, and community engagement 
Brand Execution
  • Ensure each store reflects the Tom Beckbe brand through merchandising, storytelling, and service 
  • Maintain a high standard of visual presentation consistent with a premium outdoor lifestyle brand 
  • Act as a brand ambassador, both internally and externally 
Business & Operations
  • Analyze store performance and implement strategies to drive growth and profitability 
  • Partner with leadership on retail strategy, including new store opportunities and market insights 
  • Oversee operational consistency across locations, including scheduling, payroll, and inventory flow 
Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, e-commerce, and product teams to ensure alignment across channels 
  • Bring insights from the field to inform product assortment, storytelling, and customer strategy 
Who You Are
  • A multi-unit retail leader with experience in premium, lifestyle-driven brands. 
  • Passionate about the outdoors, heritage brands, and building authentic customer relationships 
  • A hands-on leader who enjoys being in stores, coaching teams, and leading from the front 
  • Strong operator with the ability to balance people leadership and business performance 
  • Naturally community-oriented, you understand that great retail is about connection, not just transactions
