Job Title: Retail District Manager Reports To: Director of Retail Operations

Essential Functions:
The Retail District Manager is responsible for leading, overseeing, and optimizing the operational and production performance of multiple assigned locations. This role focuses on driving throughput, processing efficiency, inventory flow, and labor productivity while developing store management teams to consistently meet or exceed financial targets, production benchmarks, and operational standards.
- To recruit, interview, and hire store management staff to ensure all locations are appropriately staffed to support production demands, workflow efficiency, and operational output.
- To supervise, train, coach, and develop store management teams to execute production processes efficiently and consistently at a high level.
- To hold staff accountable and take immediate corrective action to ensure adherence to production goals, operational procedures, and performance standards.
- To effectively manage payroll and non-payroll expenses within budgetary guidelines, while optimizing labor allocation to maximize productivity and net income.
- To drive production performance by ensuring established processing, throughput, and output metrics are consistently achieved or exceeded across all locations.
- To provide ongoing coaching and development focused on improving production efficiency, workflow execution, and staff capability at all levels.
- To analyze financial, labor, and production reports to identify trends, inefficiencies, and opportunities for operational improvement.
- To ensure proper merchandise flow and rotation by reinforcing disciplined adherence to production guidelines and minimizing processing delays or backlogs.
- To ensure all donated and purchased goods are processed from intake to the sales floor in a timely, efficient, and consistent manner, maintaining strong production flow and reduced cycle times.
- To oversee the purchased goods program, including ordering, inventory control, merchandising execution, and shrink management, ensuring alignment with production and sales goals.
- To model and reinforce a culture of operational discipline, accountability, and continuous improvement across all locations.
- To support new store openings with a focus on establishing efficient production processes, workflow layout, staffing readiness, and inventory flow.
- To continuously develop store management teams to strengthen operational execution, production outcomes, and leadership effectiveness.
- To partner with store management teams to ensure alignment on financial goals, production targets, and timely operational adjustments to improve performance.
- To enforce all personnel, safety, and operational policies, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- To conduct regular site visits to evaluate production efficiency, workflow execution, safety practices, and overall operational performance.
- In the absence of a Store Manager, the District Manager is responsible for stepping in to lead daily operations, ensuring continuity of production, staffing, compliance, and performance standards until the position is filled.
- This position is classified as exempt and requires a high level of professional commitment, ownership, and flexibility. The role demands extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as necessary to meet production demands, operational needs, and organizational objectives.
Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to effectively lead, motivate, coach, develop, and train others to perform their respective duties at higher levels.
- Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with, and among, store personnel while motivating each to put forth their best effort.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English.
- Must be able to work flexible hours on short notice, including nights and weekends, and occasionally extended hours as required by business needs.
- Must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently.
- Must be able to engage in prolonged standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Must be able to work independently and take direction with minimal supervision.
- Must have knowledge of retail merchandising best practices across multiple product categories.
- Must have knowledge of the value of clothing, household items, furniture, books, shoes, and other commodities.
- Must exhibit sound judgment and possess strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Must be able to interact professionally and productively with a diverse group of individuals.
- Must be able to effectively represent Goodwill and communicate the organization’s mission to the public.
Requirements:
1. Associate degree in business management or a related field highly preferred and at least five years multi-unit supervisory experience in a production/manufacturing environment.
2. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
3. Must be able to be insurable through the Company’s insurance carrier.
4. Must be proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
Working Conditions:
Frequent physical exertion, exposure to unfit donated goods, materials and frequent travel throughout assigned territory. The ability to tolerate frequent periods of high stress, manage a heavy workload and multiple priorities.
