    Job Description

    Position Title: Pharmacist (Retail)
    Department: Pharmacy
    Reports To: Director of Pharmacy
    FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
    Position Summary
    The Pharmacist is responsible for interpreting and verifying prescriptions, compounding medications, and ensuring accurate dispensing. The role includes patient and medical personnel interaction, compliance with safety standards, and the ability to handle complex pharmacy tasks.
    Essential Functions
    • Input and verify prescriptions.
    • Manage insurance-related issues.
    • Contact providers to resolve prescription-related queries.
    • Transfer prescriptions between pharmacies.
    • Oversee pharmacy personnel and daily operations.
    • Administer vaccinations when technician is unavailable.
     
    Position Standards
    • Verify prescriptions and ensure renal dosing accuracy.
    • Communicate and collaborate with providers and nursing staff.
    • Provide drug information to medical personnel and patients.
     
    Qualifications
    • Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from an accredited school.
    • Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of Virginia.
    • Authorized to administer vaccinations.
    • Ability to provide pharmaceutical care across all age groups.
     
    Competencies
    • Familiarity with Pioneer preferred.
    • Basic computer knowledge and ability to work with automated pharmacy systems.
    • Knowledge and training in HIPAA and infection control guidelines.
    • Ability to supervise support personnel.
    • Excellent communication skills with patients and healthcare providers.
    • Willingness to train and adapt to new systems and protocols.
    • Ability to work in hospital setting considered bonus but not required.
    Physical Requirements
    • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods throughout the workday.
    • Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Manual dexterity for pharmacy and point-of-sale tasks
    • Perform various repetitive motions (e.g., entering data, preparing medications).
    Working Conditions
    • Work performed in a retail pharmacy environment
    • Frequent interaction with patients and customers
    • Exposure to medications, chemicals, and potential biological hazards
    • Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions and high customer volume
    • Primarily indoors in retail setting.
    • May require extended hours, and schedule flexibility based on retail operations
