Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY
The Retail Pharmacy Inventory Specialist is responsible for coordinating medication and supply purchasing, inventory management, and procurement activities to ensure adequate product availability and efficient pharmacy operations. This role manages wholesaler ordering, inventory integrity, medication shortages, recalls, expirations, and 340B inventory compliance as applicable, while supporting regulatory requirements and cost-effective purchasing practices. The position works collaboratively with pharmacists, staff, and vendors to maintain uninterrupted medication access and support retail pharmacy operations.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Licensure/Certification:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current active Pharmacy Technician license with the California State Board of Pharmacy required.
National certification (e.g., PTCB) preferred.
Knowledge/Experience:
Minimum of three (3) years of retail pharmacy, community pharmacy, or healthcare retail experience required.
Knowledge of retail pharmacy operations, medication procurement, inventory management, and applicable federal and state pharmacy regulations, including controlled substances, 340B program requirements, and DSCSA compliance.
Experience in medication purchasing, wholesaler ordering systems, inventory optimization, shortage mitigation, and maintaining accurate inventory records and audit readiness.
Skills:
Proficiency in pharmacy management systems, inventory software, wholesaler portals, and basic computer applications to support efficient pharmacy operations.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities, resolve problems, collaborate effectively, and maintain a high level of accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
