JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership and Customer Service - Be part of the leadership of volunteers and professionals in fulfilling the Mission of the Gift Shop, with its focus on the health and comfort of patients and their families. Facilitate an atmosphere of positive teamwork, including the ability to successfully resolve conflict. Provide services in a manner to be regularly and conveniently available to meet needs. Recommends areas or approaches for improvement activities, performs new procedures, collects data and provides input to department discussions.
Daily Operations and Shop Procedures - Assist in daily operations of the Gift Shop. Monitor opening and/or closing of the cash register and security of the cash receipts. Responsible for closing cash registers and the necessary paperwork including the reconciliation of cash receipts. Assist in training new Shop employees and volunteers. Help coordinate on-order files, monthly balances, markdown reconciliation and end of year inventory. Ensure that Shop sales floor and work areas are maintained in a safe, orderly and clean manner that aids in an efficient working and shopping environment for customers, volunteers and employees. Maintain adequate security procedures to protect Shop staff, merchandise and money.
Merchandising and Merchandise Selection - Select merchandise and place orders, manage inventory and documentation for assigned merchandise departments. Establish and maintain relationships with vendors, including negotiating pricing, discounts, and promotions. Maintain awareness of customer merchandise preferences (especially children) via Shop customer inquiries, industry literature, working with the sales representatives and observation of other retailers. Stay current on industry trends. Management of purchasing aspects. Work independently to manage the inventory of designated departments. Involved in buying discussions with management team, making recommendations/decisions on upcoming product arrivals and future merchandising displays.
Responsible for transfer of merchandise from Base. Create displays and refresh with everchanging inventory and quantities. Change out departments to encourage increased sales.
Backup for Supervisor in all areas -including cash register, updates, merchandise returns and customer requests.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent
3+ years of work experience in a related job discipline
