    Hiring Range

    $168,300.00 - $244,050.00/Annual Actual pay is determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, education, credentials, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
    Overview
    The Retail & Specialty Pharmacy Director provides strategic leadership for Riverside's retail and specialty pharmacy services division, ensuring exceptional financial, operational, and clinical performance. This role leads the development and execution of strategic priorities, drives growth and innovation, and ensures regulatory and accreditation compliance. The Director leads a high-performing team to deliver consistent, compliant, and patient-centered pharmacy services, ensuring high reliability across all locations. This leader strengthens payer and manufacturer relationships and enhances system value through improved access, outcomes, and efficiency. The position is fully accountable for operational execution, performance management, business results, and advancement of Riverside's strategic goals.

    What you will do
    • Strategic Planning & Service Line Growth: Develop, lead, and execute the system’s strategic plan for retail and specialty pharmacy including growth initiatives, new business lines, payer and manufacturer partnerships, digital engagement strategies, and clinical program expansion to improve patient access, outcomes, and enterprise value
    • Operational Leadership & High Reliability Performance: Provide strategic and operational leadership across all retail and specialty pharmacy sites, ensuring high-reliability operations, excellent patient experience, efficient workflows, and consistent execution of system policies and procedures. Maintain oversight of day-to-day operational performance and ensure functioning, reliable, and effective pharmacy services across all locations
    • Financial Stewardship & Revenue Optimization: Drive financial performance by developing annual budgets, monitoring revenue and margin metrics, optimizing drug procurement and inventory management, strengthening reimbursement performance, reducing avoidable costs, and leading monthly operational and financial review processes
    • Talent Management & Leadership Development: Lead high-performing leaders & team through effective talent management, hiring, workforce planning, optimal staffing ratios, coaching, performance evaluation, accountability to goals, leadership development, and succession planning across all areas of responsibility
    • Innovation, Technology, and Modernization: Advance innovation by identifying, evaluating, and implementing new technologies, automation, workflow redesign, digital engagement tools, analytics platforms, and modernized clinical and operational models that increase capacity, improve efficiency, and enhance medication access
    • Systemwide Collaboration & Enterprise Integration: Collaborate with organizational leadership, physicians, payers, population health, 340B, employer health plan, infusion, ambulatory, and other partners to align pharmacy services, close medication-access gaps, enhance transitions of care, standardize workflows, and expand pharmacy’s integration across the continuum of care
    • Quality, Safety, Accreditation & Compliance Infrastructure: Ensure operational excellence through rigorous quality management, performance improvement, accreditation readiness (URAC/ACHC), risk mitigation, safety event reduction, and proactive compliance with state and federal law, Boards of Pharmacy regulations, payer requirements, accrediting body standards, and internal Riverside policies
    • Professional Leadership, Best Practices, and National Engagement: Actively engage in national networks and benchmarking collaboratives to bring leading-edge practices to Riverside

    Qualifications

    Education
    • Bachelors Degree, or higher in Pharmacy (Required)

    Experience
    • 3 years of progressive pharmacy leadership experience within a health system (Required)
    • 2 years of retail & specialty experience within a health system (Required)

    Skills and Abilities
    • Comprehensive knowledge of retail and specialty pharmacy operations, accreditation standards (URAC/ACHC), payer/manufacturer requirements, and medication-use processes
    • Knowledge of workflow design, technology platforms, automation, analytics, and digital engagement tools.
    • Understanding of performance improvement, quality management, and high-reliability operations
    • Strong executive leadership presence with ability to motivate, coach, and retain high-performing teams
    • Advanced analytical skills to interpret financial, operational, and clinical data to drive outcomes.
    • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with influence across all organizational levels, payers, providers, and other stakeholders
    • Skilled in strategic planning, business development, and leading change or technology initiatives
    • Ability to execute strategic plans, lead multi-site operations, drive innovation, and make complex decisions while fostering a culture of accountability, safety, service excellence, and high performance

    Licenses and Certifications
    • Licensed Pharmacist - Virginia Department of Health Professions (VDHP) within 90 Days(Required)
    • 340B University OnDemand - Apexus within 180 Days(Required)
