MAC is all of those things and more.The RoleThe Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) is seeking a Retail Manager to join our club's Engagement team. The Retail Manager is responsible for the overall strategy, operation, and performance of the Club's primary retail operations, including the M‑Porium and related retail initiatives that support member programs and the MAC lifestyle.The Retail Manager develops a curated merchandise assortment aligned with member activities across athletics, wellness, and Club identity while maintaining strong fiscal discipline, healthy inventory turns, and profitable margins. This role partners closely with Club leadership and program areas to ensure retail supports major programs, team activities, seasonal demand, and evolving member needs.What You'll DoDeliver Exceptional Member ExperienceEnsure retail operations support the Club's hospitality culture and overall member experienceEstablish proactive service standards for engaging members and guestsMaintain a welcoming retail environment aligned with Club design and service standardsDevelop and manage the annual departmental budget (sales, COGS, labor, expenses, profit)Monitor daily and monthly performance; analyze variances and implement corrective actionsEstablish pricing strategies and manage markdowns to meet financial and inventory goalsApprove invoices, manage accounts payable processes, and submit purchase ordersOversee POS operations, including discrepancies, refunds, and system correctionsDrive Buying & Merchandising StrategyDevelop and execute buying plans aligned with sales goals and seasonal needsSelect merchandise that reflects member preferences and Club brand standardsPartner with programs to create merchandise tied to teams and initiativesOversee visual merchandising and promotional displays to drive salesCollaborate with Communications to execute an annual promotional planBuild and manage strong vendor relationships, including negotiating terms and resolving issuesManage Inventory EffectivelyUse sales and inventory data to optimize replenishment and minimize excess stockReconcile monthly inventory and ensure timely, accurate reportingConduct physical inventories and cycle counts; resolve discrepanciesMonitor shrink and implement loss prevention strategiesLead and Develop the TeamRecruit, interview, and build a professional, service-oriented retail teamProvide onboarding, training, coaching, and performance feedbackEnsure proper staffing coverage for service and security needsReview and approve timekeeping in alignment with payroll proceduresSupport OperationsWork on the sales floor as needed to support members and model service behaviorsReview and approve branded merchandise designsOrder retail supplies, fixtures, and materialsPerform other duties as assignedWhat You'll BringAssociate degree in retail management or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)5+ years of progressive retail experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership role2+ years of merchandise buying experience, preferably in apparel or soft goodsExperience managing budgets, inventory, and staff in a customer-facing environmentProficiency with POS systems, inventory tools, and business applicationsWhat You'll GainAt Multnomah Athletic Club, we believe in taking care of our team members.
