As the Retail Store Manager, youll lead the daily operations of one of Tacoma/Pierce County Habitat for Humanitys stores - driving sales, inspiring staff and volunteers, and transforming donated goods into funding that helps build affordable homes. Youll play a vital role in advancing Habitats mission while creating a welcoming destination for shoppers and donors alike.

Key Responsibilities Leadership & Supervision
Lead, train, and schedule store staff, program participants, and volunteers. Monitor performance, address employee concerns, and support corrective action when needed. Partner with the Director of Retail Operasions on hiring, performance management, and staff development. Ensure all team members follow safety, operational, and organizational policies. Provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback to staff and volunteers. Promote a positive, inclusive, and mission-driven work culture.
Finance & Administration
Oversee daily cash handling, deposits, and financial accountability. Support budget management and financial performance goals. Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reporting.
Operations & Sales
Manage all aspects of retail operations, including merchandising, pricing, inventory flow, and donation intake. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and customer-friendly sales floor and warehouse. Track and order necessary supplies and equipment. Stay current on retail trends and pricing of comparable products. Utilize Microsoft Office and other tools to manage operations effectively.
Facility & Logistics
Oversee store opening/closing procedures and cashier reconciliations. Ensure facility maintenance and security of all assets, cash, and confidential information.
Community Engagement
Build strong relationships with volunteers, donors, Habitat homeowners, community partners / vendors, and the public. Support gift-in-kind (GIK) donation growth and stewardship. Assist in promoting special sales, events, and new product arrivals.
Strategic Contribution
Collaborate with leadership on long- and short-term goals for the Store and affiliate. Contribute ideas for improving efficiency, sales, and community impact. Perform additional duties as assigned to advance Habitat's mission. Use sales and operational data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education preferred. Minimum of five years' work experience, including at least two years in retail or sales management. Strong leadership, communication, and customer service skills. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. Forklift experience preferred (or willingness to be trained). Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and comfort with databases/spreadsheets. Occasional overnight travel to conferences
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb ladders, and move throughout the sales floor and warehouse for extended periods. Ability to work in varying indoor and outdoor weather conditions while receiving donations.
