What Does a Retail Team Member Do Anyway?

Position Purpose and Objectives

America's Thrift Stores is currently seeking Retail Team Members! We are looking for individuals with excellent customer service abilities, a strong work ethic, and a genuine desire to assist others. Successful applicants will excel in driving sales by delivering exceptional customer service both at the register and on the sales floor. Responsibilities include maintaining proper display setups, ensuring merchandise presentation is top-notch, and upholding cleanliness standards for operational efficiency. We are specifically seeking outgoing self-starters who are goal-driven and thrive in dynamic environments. This role offers a unique opportunity for individuals to blend their passion for business with the chance to make a positive impact in their communities.  To support store operations, this position requires flexibility to work a rotating schedule (mid-shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays).

Roles and Responsibilities

• Warmly greets and engages with customers upon entry
• Promptly responds to customer inquiries and requests
• Assists customers in locating merchandise throughout the store
• Attends promptly to cash register calls and operates the register as necessary
• Approaches tasks with a strong sense of urgency
• Adheres to proper procedures for handling claims merchandise
• Maintains a well-organized and visually appealing sales floor
• Possesses knowledge of products, discounts, and the companys mission
• Stays informed about all aspects of store operations
• Completes any additional duties as assigned by management

Skills and Qualifications

• High School Degree, GED or equivalent work experiences preferred
• Must be at least 16 years of age
• Displays excellent sales and customer service skills through interactions both in person and on the phone
• Ability to anticipate customers' needs and recommend merchandise
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the retail space.
• Ability to count and handle money
• Ability to operate cash register
• Must be able to meet physical demands
• On-the-job training provided
• Ability to work a rotating schedule (mid-shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays)

Never- 0%, Occasionally- 1-33%, Frequently- 34-66%, Continuously- 67-100%

Physical Demands:

• Frequently - Carrying up to 50 lbs., pushing and pulling up to 25 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., climbing up to 14-foot height, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, handling and smelling.
• Frequently - Walking on tile/concrete, bending, feeling, and reaching waist/overhead level.
• Continuously - Standing on tile/concrete, talking, seeing, and hearing.

Other:

• Mostly working a rotating schedule (mid-shifts, evenings, weekends and holidays).
• Working environment includes inside of building with semi- controlled temperatures and outside conditions with varying weather and temperatures.
