A leading investment bank, asset manager, private equity firm, or corporate finance team may seek a Returns & Performance Strategist to evaluate how capital, transactions, and portfolios perform over time.
This role is ideal for candidates interested in measuring, explaining, and improving financial returns, combining quantitative analysis with strategic insights that influence investment decisions, capital allocation, and portfolio optimization.
Analyze and track investment, deal, and portfolio performance across time horizons and scenarios
Build and maintain financial models to evaluate returns, IRR, ROIC, multiples, and risk-adjusted performance
Conduct variance, attribution, and sensitivity analyses to explain drivers of overperformance or underperformance
Support performance reporting for investment committees, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
Benchmark returns against peers, indices, and market alternatives
Assist in developing performance dashboards, scorecards, and KPIs for investments or business units
Partner with investment, banking, or strategy teams to incorporate performance insights into future decisions
Support post-transaction and post-investment reviews to assess value creation effectiveness
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline
Strong interest in investment performance, returns analysis, and financial strategy
Solid understanding of valuation, portfolio metrics, and performance measurement frameworks
Strong analytical, quantitative, and data interpretation skills
Ability to translate complex performance data into clear, actionable insights
High attention to detail and comfort working with large financial datasets
Prior internship or experience in investment banking, asset management, private equity, FP&A, consulting, or analytics is beneficial
Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and financial or performance analytics tools
