Repair Welder will be responsible for supporting our Automotive Structures Plant in Van Buren Twp., Michigan. A successful Repair Welder will be able to analyze the level of repair necessary to remove weld defects and produce repairs which meet or exceed our customer and AWS specifications.
- Identify and inspect areas needing repair
- Weld areas on aluminum parts using one or more techniques: Gas Metal Arc Welder (GMAW) or Gas Tungsten Arc Welder (GTAW)
- Remove defective welds and welds in compliance with Process Control Procedures, customer and AWS D8.14 welding specifications
- Welds components in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions
- Welds repairs by placing parts on benches or fixtures
- Inspect front and back of completed welds to assure proper technique and adequate metal deposit
- Minimize scrap
- Repair torch heads, replaces power cables and performs minor maintenance on welding equipment
- Adhere to company safety rules
- Safely operate all equipment and tools
All other duties assigned by the supervision and necessary to perform the job.
Required competencies, experience and technical skills
- Ability to pass in house GTAW welding test
- 1-year minimum experience or an AWS certification
- Must be able to read precision measuring instruments and weld drawings
- Have 20/20 or corrected near vision in both eyes
