Job Description & Responsibilities

Persistent Systems is looking for an RF Engineer Technician to anchor its R&D program in WLAN radios. Candidates should have strong experiences in test, troubleshooting, rework, and production support for the wireless transceivers. Target products are for multiband width wireless data communications in the frequency range 1300Mhz to 6Ghz.

Position Responsibilities

  • Utilizing, supporting, maintaining, and organizing RF, hardware, and software engineering lab equipment
  • Supporting, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis of Wave Relay® software/hardware issues (internal and external)
  • Supporting and facilitating general hardware and software testing related to engineering project work
  • Learning Wave Relay® systems and developing extensive technical knowledge to be able to act as technical support backup
  • Supporting and facilitating execution of software regression testing and firmware release
  • Assisting with PLM management

Job Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum associate's degree in electrical engineering, electronics technology, or a related technical discipline; equivalent military or industry experience will be considered
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in RF testing, troubleshooting, and repair of complex electronic systems
  • Working knowledge of RF fundamentals, including: Transmitter, Receiver, and Antenna VSWR, insertion loss, and gain
  • Proven experience using RF test equipment such as: Vector spectrum analyzers (VSAs), vector network analyzers (VNAs), signal generators, power meters, and oscilloscopes
  • Proven ability to diagnose and troubleshoot RF, analog, and digital circuit issues.
  • Proficient soldering capability, including: through-hole, surface mount technology (e.g., QFN, BGA, and 0201 package types), cable assemblies and wire harnesses
  • Strong rework skills, including the use of microscopes, hand tools, and benchtop rework stations
  • Experience reading and interpreting schematics, block diagrams, test procedures, and engineering documentation
  • Familiarity with manufacturing test processes, acceptance testing, and production support in a high-reliability environment
  • Strong documentation skills, including test reports, failure analysis, and corrective action recommendations
  • General RF lab management, including: managing equipment calibration schedules and ensuring compliance with ISO and internal quality requirements
  • Maintain lab inventory, including RF cables, adapters, attenuators, and consumables
  • Coordinate lab usage, scheduling, and prioritization across engineering, manufacturing, and test teams
  • Manage the requisition process for all RF-related purchases
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to mentor junior technicians
  • U.S. citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance may be required
  • Ability to work in a lab and production environment, including handling sensitive electronic hardware
  • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and commitment to quality
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting MANET radios, tactical communications systems, or wireless networking equipment
  • Working knowledge of Altium Designer
  • Experience with PCB layout up to four layers
  • Familiarity with environmental, EMI/EMC, or regulatory pre-compliance testing
  • Experience with automated test systems and scripting (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, or similar)
  • IPC, J-STD, or military electronics training/certifications
  • Prior experience in defense, aerospace, or mission-critical communications industries

The base pay for this role can vary from $40.00 to $44.75 an hour based on the selected individual's education and experience.
