Staff Right of Way Specialist

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 12 months
  • Pay Rate: $38.00 $47.00 / Hour (USD)
  • Shift / Schedule: Days (First Shift)
  • Travel Requirements: Field work required; hybrid office/field role time split depends on project phase

Job Summary

This is a Right of Way (ROW) Specialist role supporting a utility client with a strong emphasis on client-facing capabilities. The role functions as a hybrid between Project Management and ROW specialist a "jack-of-all-trades" within ROW working across different stages of the project lifecycle. The position operates across both office settings and field environments, with primary locations in Waltham, MA (client office) and Newton, MA (office), with time split depending on project phase. Team members are expected to represent the company professionally and engage with both internal stakeholders and external clients. This opportunity has potential for conversion to full-time (FTE).

Key Responsibilities

  • Negotiate agreement for right of way easements on client's behalf
  • Negotiate removal or establish license agreement for encroachments on client's transmission easements or fee right of way
  • Desktop review and field verification of potential encroachments
  • Analyze, prepare, review and interpret Land and Right of Way related agreements, deeds, easements, leases, permits and licenses
  • Complete rights and restrictions reviews
  • Research and review of real property-related documents
  • Understand and interpret easement agreements
  • Support translation of data from Right of Way documents into a stakeholder management database
  • Complete document research as needed
  • Manage and prioritize workload
  • Support client needs as directed
  • Efficient at working independently as well as in team environment
  • Perform Right of Way (ROW) agent work
  • Act as a hybrid between Project Management and ROW specialist
  • Work across different stages of project lifecycle

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of general real estate law

  • Proficient in working with spreadsheets and other task tracking software

  • Valid driver's license required; must meet standards to qualify for and maintain the Company's vehicle driving privileges

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with GIS and familiarity with construction drawings

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement)

Required Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of applicable experience required
  • Not entry-level must have prior utility experience and a background in Right of Way

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Hybrid office/field role office and field environments
  • Primary locations: client office in Waltham, MA and office in Newton, MA; time split depends on project phase
  • Must be comfortable working independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must be able to represent the company professionally in an APM-style client-facing capacity
