State of Idaho - Department of Administration OpportunityAre you ready for a new challenge? The Department of Administration is looking for a Risk Management Claims Adjudicator. Join us and be part of one of the most diverse agencies in Idaho State Government, located in the shadow of the Capitol Building in beautiful downtown Boise. The ideal candidate will have knowledge and understanding of insurance principles and policies; litigation management experience; negotiation skills including mediation and settlement experience; experience directing the activities of independent adjusters and legal counsel; proper and casualty claims handling experience; and have some familiarity with tort claims, comparative negligence laws, and rules of civil procedure and case law.We serve Idaho by promoting responsible government through expert customer support.

Example of Duties: Claims investigation/adjudication.Investigates and determines legal liability of claims by analyzing and applying tort, federal and civil law, immunities, theories of negligence and comparative negligence, adjusting principals, insurance coverage and exclusions, and determining responsible parties and related coveragesVerifies that claims are properly filed in accordance with related lawsImplements file set-up, coding and computer inputInsures coverage verificationDetermines and retains information necessary before claims can be evaluatedAnalyzes loss reports and claims to determine severity of loss and liability of the StateConducts interviews with partiesAssigns and directs investigations by outside adjustersAnalyzes and evaluates evidence gathered for completenessEvaluates bodily injury claims, and works with medical personnel to interpret and analyze severity and appropriateness of injury's claimedServes as liaison between state agencies, insurance adjusters, claimants and/or attorneys regarding claims processingSeeks subrogation to collect reimbursement

  1. Litigation management.Determines direction and procedures for claims managementWorks with legal counsel to develop defense strategiesEvaluates and approves aspects of discovery to be conducted by counselCommunicates by telephone and in writing with claimants, state agencies, witnesses, adjusters, and attorneysDetermines legal and liability reserves, and monitors them for needed adjustmentsMonitors course of trial proceedings and coordinates with counsel regarding proceedingsActs as liaison between agencies and counselConducts and directs settlement negotiationsSubstantiates that correct settlement sums have been indicated and documents are prepared and filed accordinglyDirects file set-up, computer entry, and that correspondence and reports are appropriateProvides claim coverage and procedural information to the public and state agency customers as necessary

Loss control.Identifies hazards and loss trends through the adjustment of claims and incidentsParticipates in development of information to promote public relations by educating and instructing state agencies on loss trends and identifiable hazards Minimum Qualifications: You must possess all the minimum qualifications below . Failure to do this may disqualify you from being considered for this position.Minimum Qualifications (required):Investigating, evaluating, adjusting, and settling first and third party claims;Directing the activities of defense counsel and independent adjusters pertaining to civil tort law cases;Apply the Idaho Tort Claims Act (ITCA) in the adjudication of public entity claims;Applying claims management/loss control practices;Operating a personal computer for word processing and entering and retrieving data Please note: The successful candidate will be required to pass a fingerprint-based background check.
