Under general direction of the Chief Campus Risk Management & Insurance Administrator, performs moderately complex (journey-level) risk management work. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Employees at this level may work more independently than those at the previous level and may routinely assist others in performing work of greater complexity.

Essential Duties Summary

  • Risk Mitigation: Develop and implement loss control programs, safety initiatives, and risk management guidelines.
  • Analysis & Reporting: Review, analyze, and document loss exposure data, and identify safety hazards.
  • Claims Handling: Investigate, process, and manage insurance claims (property, vehicle, liability) and negotiate settlements.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with state, federal, and local laws, as well as internal policies and procedures.
  • Training & Consultation: Provide safety training to employees, prepare educational materials, and consult with departments to mitigate risk.
  • Technology & Data: Utilize risk management information systems, analyze data, and maintain databases (e.g., OSHA logs).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Relevant laws, regulations, and risk management practices.
  • Insurance lines of coverage, risk financing techniques, casualty insurance policies, and insurance policy negotiating and purchasing.
  • Requires working knowledge of specialized practices, compliance and procedures.
  • Microsoft Office Professional or similar application.

Work Experience

Required:

  • Two (2) - five (5) years of experience in risk management, safety, or claims administration.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Preferred:

  • Safety, or a related field preferred.
  • ARM Certificate (associate in risk management) or RIMS-CRMP (RIMS-Certified Risk Management Professional) are preferred.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Routine office environment.
  • Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
  • Use of video display terminal.
