Position Summary: The Risk Manager III provides strategic leadership for risk management initiatives, directly influencing organizational policy, patient safety culture, and regulatory compliance. This role partners with leadership to design, implement, and evaluate risk prevention programs that drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiency. Responsibilities Essential Functions: • Provides strategic leadership for risk management initiatives, directly influencing organizational policy, patient safety culture, and regulatory compliance. • Directs complex investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring timely resolution and organizational learning. • Partners with leadership to design, implement, and evaluate risk prevention programs that drive measurable improvements in patient outcomes and operational efficiency. • Represents Orlando Health in high-level interactions with state and federal regulatory agencies, industry groups, and external stakeholders. • Ensures compliance with Florida Risk Statutes, risk management related Joint Commission standards, and other accrediting and regulatory agencies, directly impacting patient safety and minimizing organizational liability. • Serves as the principal advisor to leadership on risk trends, mitigation strategies, and emerging regulatory issues. • Directs complex investigations and cause analyses, ensuring timely resolution, organizational learning, and continuous improvement. • Champions a culture of safety and continuous improvement through cross-functional collaboration, education, and change management. • Utilizes advanced data analytics to identify trends, forecast risks, and inform strategic decision-making. • Responds to professional liability and facility questions posed by physicians, nurses, and other personnel, delivering expert guidance and timely solutions. • Receives and investigates reports of product problems, ensuring appropriate responses to federal, state, and manufacturer reporting requirements. • Works collaboratively with the executive team to implement risk and safety initiatives. • Provides guidance in the disclosure process for medical errors, promoting accountability and continuous improvement. • Ensures compliance with various codes, laws, and regulations concerning patient care, including those mandated by state and federal agencies and incident reporting requirements; includes investigation activities of federal, state, and local enforcement authorities. • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures. Other Related Functions: • Develops, coordinates, and administers facility or assigned area-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and reduction; performs risk surveys and inspects patient care areas; and reviews the facility or assigned area for loss potential. • Provides proactive analysis of patient safety and medical errors processes, including the analysis of operational/clinical areas/trends and recommendations to mitigate clinical risk. • Provides oversight, support, and response to escalation of on-call events for clinical risk management services and participates in on- call responsibilities. • Ensures administrators and appropriate leadership are informed regarding occurrences, findings, and risk management recommendations, supporting the design and implementation of department-specific risk management programs. • Delivers targeted in-service training to personnel, empowering staff to proactively minimize liability exposure within their departments and across the facility • Facilitates and oversees all causes analysis investigations and reporting of adverse events to the appropriate parties. • Mentors new team members in risk management activities and is responsible for new hire orientation, including applicable educational in-services. • Monitors legislative and regulatory developments related to healthcare risk management, communicating relevant updates to stakeholders and adopting practices as needed. • Cross-trained in multiple areas of risk management to provide coverage for Risk Manager and Senior Risk Manager roles as needed. • Coordinates and leads organizational projects, driving innovation and continuous improvement in risk management practices • Designs and delivers in-service training to hospital personnel to enhance awareness of their role in reducing facility or assigned areas liability exposure. • Ensures participation on committees directed towards promoting patient safety issues, risk reduction, and compliance, contributing strategic insights and leadership. • Demonstrates all competencies required by Florida Statute. • Performs other duties as assigned.
