RN - Ambulatory Care

JOB SUMMARY:

The Ambulatory Care Infusion Nurse provides safe, high-quality nursing care to patients receiving outpatient infusion therapies. This role works within an ambulatory suite, collaborating closely with physicians, pharmacists, and clinic staff to manage patient flow and monitor treatments

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Greet and escort patients to the appropriate bay.
• Conduct physical evaluations, review medical histories, weight and check vital signs before, during, and after treatments.
• Prepare charts for treatment days..
• Insert and manage peripheral IV lines, central lines (PICC, ports, midlines), and safely administer prescribed medications, chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologics and blood products.
• Watch patients closely for adverse reactions or side effects, intervening rapidly during clinical emergencies.
• Teach patients and families about therapy goals, home care techniques, and expected side effects
• Coordinate with pharmacy services to verify medication dosages and partner with providers on individual care plans
• Complete medication assistance program documentation for patients when needed.
• Maintain clear, accurate records of patient vitals, clinical notes, and interventions in the electronic health record (EHR).
• Maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to oncology patients served.
• Assist in the training and development of staff members.
• Triage in-coming calls and make follow-up calls to patients when applicable.
• Assist with Continued Quality Improvement (CQI) processes. May be asked to help with certain of these projects during down time.
• Maintain and respect confidentiality.
• Participate in all mandatory in-service requirements of Northern Maine Medical Center.
• Behave in a courteous, professional manner.
• Perform such related duties not listed herein but deemed in the best interest of the hospital.
• Perform or assist with special skilled interventions as appropriate.
• Responsible to perform Oncology nurse Competencies.
• Actively involved in day-to-day Ambulatory Center operations, with the goal of achieving exceptional customer service.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

Current valid RN license

Current ACLS certification

Maintains all other certifications as appropriate

Must complete ONS Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy course and obtain certification within 6 months

Must Cross-Train to Wound Clinic

• Color discrimination required in distinguishing various shades and colors of specimens.
