Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct patient care to adults in an inpatient behavioral health setting. The RN will be responsible for clinical assessment, medication administration, treatment planning, patient education, documentation, and crisis intervention.
The ideal candidate will have recent acute inpatient behavioral health experience and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while maintaining patient safety and compliance with applicable healthcare standards.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, including daily rounds, treatment team planning, in-service training, quality assurance activities, and department meetings.
Conduct patient interviews and perform comprehensive initial nursing assessments upon admission and discharge.
Evaluate, plan, educate, and implement individualized nursing care plans.
Complete and document required psychiatric screening and assessment tools in the EMR according to established policies and procedures, including:
BROSET
C-SSRS
Elopement Risk Assessment
CIWA
CINA
AUDIT-C
PSP
Prepare and administer medications in accordance with physician orders, nursing standards, and applicable policies.
Conduct or co-facilitate nursing education and therapeutic groups.
Document patient progress and nursing interventions in the EMR throughout the assigned shift.
Participate in and document the Comprehensive Treatment Plan.
Assist with diagnostic and clinical procedures within scope of practice, including:
EKG
Phlebotomy
Vital signs
IV insertion
Participate in and guide ancillary staff in psychiatric patient-care activities.
Support community meetings and small-group patient activities.
Follow appropriate safety protocols related to seclusion, suicide precautions, and elopement risks.
Maintain a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment for patients.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to promote effective patient care and recovery.
Required Experience
Minimum 2 years of behavioral health nursing experience required.
Recent experience in an inpatient acute-care setting required.
Experience caring for adult behavioral health patients preferred.
Strong clinical assessment, crisis intervention, communication, and documentation skills.
Education & Licensure
Active New York State Registered Nurse (RN) License required.
Primary-source verification of RN license required.
Current AHA BLS certification required.
