Description

Location: Vallejo, CA 94590
Contract Length: 13 weeks (unless otherwise noted)
Schedule: 5×8-hour shifts


Position Summary

The Behavioral Health Registered Nurse provides direct patient care in an inpatient psychiatric hospital setting. This role supports adult and pediatric psychiatric populations depending on unit assignment and requires strong clinical judgment, therapeutic communication skills, and the ability to safely manage patients experiencing acute mental health crises. The RN collaborates closely with psychiatrists, social workers, therapists, and support staff to deliver patient-centered, trauma-informed care in a secure environment.


Core Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric nursing assessments

  • Administer medications and monitor therapeutic and adverse effects

  • Implement individualized treatment plans and therapeutic interventions

  • Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques

  • Maintain patient and staff safety through structured milieu management

  • Document care accurately in the electronic medical record

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams

  • Support discharge planning and continuity of care

  • Comply with all hospital, regulatory, and safety requirements


Required Qualifications

  • Active California RN license

  • BLS certification

  • Minimum 1 year inpatient psychiatric nursing experience

  • Strong communication, de-escalation, and crisis-management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPI or equivalent crisis-prevention certification

  • Psychiatric ICU or acute inpatient psych experience
