RN – CVICU | Travel Registered Nurse
Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (36 hours/week)
Start Time: 6:30 PM
Call: None
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
Holiday Requirement: Travelers work 75% of holidays
Floating: Required within Critical Care (PCU 1:3, Med-Surg 1:4)

Unit Overview
- Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Beds: 22
- Average Daily Census: 20 patients
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- CNA Ratio: 1:20
This high-acuity CVICU provides specialized care for critically ill cardiac surgery and cardiovascular patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support.
Patient Population
Care for patients with:
- CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
- Valve repair and replacement
- Impella management
- Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
- LVAD
- ECMO
- Thoracic aortic aneurysms
- Medical and surgical cardiac critical care patients
Requirements
Experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU experience
- First-time travelers accepted with strong CVICU experience
Licensure & Certifications
- Active RN license
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
- CCRN preferred
Required Skills
- Cardiac post-operative assessment
- Management of IABP, Impella, LVAD, and ECMO
- Hemodynamic monitoring
- Cardiac rhythm and waveform interpretation
- Titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic drips
- Epic EMR experience preferred
Department Support
- 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
- 24/7 Intensivist coverage
- Charge Nurse (may carry an assignment)
- Unit Secretary available 24/7
- CNA support for ADLs, vital signs, blood glucose checks, and transport
- Nurse-drawn labs
Technology
- EMR: Epic (preferred)
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
- Patient Monitoring: Philips
- CRRT: NxStage
Orientation
- One week of hospital orientation
- 2–3 days of unit-specific orientation
