RN – CVICU | Travel Registered Nurse

Location: Winston-Salem, NC
Shift: 12-Hour Nights (36 hours/week)
Start Time: 6:30 PM
Call: None
Weekend Requirement: Every Other Weekend (EOW)
Holiday Requirement: Travelers work 75% of holidays
Floating: Required within Critical Care (PCU 1:3, Med-Surg 1:4)

Unit Overview

  • Department: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Beds: 22
  • Average Daily Census: 20 patients
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • CNA Ratio: 1:20

This high-acuity CVICU provides specialized care for critically ill cardiac surgery and cardiovascular patients requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and mechanical circulatory support.


Patient Population

Care for patients with:

  • CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Graft)
  • Valve repair and replacement
  • Impella management
  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
  • LVAD
  • ECMO
  • Thoracic aortic aneurysms
  • Medical and surgical cardiac critical care patients

Requirements

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of recent CVICU experience
  • First-time travelers accepted with strong CVICU experience

Licensure & Certifications

  • Active RN license
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
  • CCRN preferred

Required Skills

  • Cardiac post-operative assessment
  • Management of IABP, Impella, LVAD, and ECMO
  • Hemodynamic monitoring
  • Cardiac rhythm and waveform interpretation
  • Titration of vasoactive and antiarrhythmic drips
  • Epic EMR experience preferred

Department Support

  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy
  • 24/7 Intensivist coverage
  • Charge Nurse (may carry an assignment)
  • Unit Secretary available 24/7
  • CNA support for ADLs, vital signs, blood glucose checks, and transport
  • Nurse-drawn labs

Technology

  • EMR: Epic (preferred)
  • IV Pumps: Alaris
  • Medication Dispensing: Omnicell
  • Patient Monitoring: Philips
  • CRRT: NxStage

Orientation

  • One week of hospital orientation
  • 2–3 days of unit-specific orientation
