Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Cardiovascular Surgery ICU (CVS ICU)

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Travel Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Cardiovascular Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CVS ICU) for a 13-week assignment. The RN is responsible for coordinating and delivering comprehensive, patient-centered nursing care while collaborating with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate possesses strong critical care expertise, exceptional clinical judgment, and experience caring for complex cardiovascular surgery patients. This role requires proficiency in patient and family education, care coordination, leadership, mentoring, and quality improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for critically ill cardiovascular surgery ICU patients.
  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and document individualized patient care plans.
  • Coordinate transitions of care and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery, and ongoing care.
  • Delegate patient care appropriately based on staff competency, patient acuity, and available resources.
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor to nursing staff while promoting professional development.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, committees, and departmental projects.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Adhere to professional nursing standards and organizational policies while ensuring patient safety and quality outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent Acute Care ICU nursing experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year of recent travel nursing experience.
  • Strong patient care coordination and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, mentoring, and teaching abilities.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recent Cardiovascular Surgery ICU (CVS ICU) experience.
  • Experience caring for patients with:
    • Ventricular Assist Devices (VAD)
    • Impella devices
    • Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO)
    • Intra-aortic Balloon Pumps (IABP)

Assignment Details

  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: 36 hours per week
  • Shift Options:
    • Rotating Days/Nights (7:00 AM–7:30 PM and 7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
    • Straight Nights (7:00 PM–7:30 AM)
  • Every third weekend required.
  • Floating to other units is required based on staffing needs.

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of an ECG examination during orientation is mandatory. Candidates must pass the exam to continue the assignment.
