POSITION SUMMARYxc2xa0
The Cardiac Cath lab/Interventional Radiology Nurse is a skilled and experienced professional Registered Nurse (RN) responsible forxc2xa0excellence in the clinical practice of nursing and the management of patient care. Reporting to Cardio Pulmonary Services with axc2xa0dotted line to Acute Care Nursing. The Cardiac Cath Lab and Interventional Radiology Nurse has10 hour accountability forxc2xa0organizing, planning, directing, coordinating, and providing high quality, individualized patient/family centered care based on the Watsonxc2xa0Model of Care for a defined group of patients, including the identification and demonstration of abilities to meet special needs andxc2xa0considerations of Age and Population Specific awareness. This specialized nurse will primarily support Cardiology andxc2xa0Interventional Radiology, but also many clinical departments for conscious sedation procedures for patients with the ASA1 andxc2xa0ASA2 medical determination throughout the hospital (Peri-OP, Nursing, and Endoscopy) and cardiac monitoring, when requiredxc2xa0(Lexiscan procedures, CT and MRI testing).xc2xa0 This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfillingxc2xa0the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital. - xc2xa0Understands pathophysiology related to a patient with imbalance between myocardial oxygen supply and demand resultingxc2xa0in impaired cardiac function, as well as patients experiencing arrhythmias, both atrial and ventricular.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Assesses and intervenes based on patients signs and symptoms, correlated diagnostic test results.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Administers medications, including vasoactive drugs, antiarrhythmic and other cardiac and emergency medications, safelyxc2xa0and understands indications and expected outcomes.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Understands indications for procedural interventions and how these alter patient pathophysiology, including applicationxc2xa0and use of pacemakers (external, transcutaneous and permanent) when applicable, thus changing patient plan or care.xc2xa0 xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Interprets diagnostic information obtained during procedures and communicates/assesses/intervenes appropriately, ie:xc2xa0Information from hemodynamic parameters, pressure wires, EKG interpretation.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Monitors patients with thrombolytic agents including intra-arterial and recognizes possible complications.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Manages coagulation of patient accurately, pre, intra and post procedure.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Assists with a variety of procedures, both Cardiac and Interventional Radiology related.xc2xa0xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Exhibits knowledge of indication and sets up equipment for procedures performed in the Cardiac Catheterization &xc2xa0Interventional Radiology Suite.xc2xa0xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Troubleshoots diagnostic equipment, i.e. hemodynamic monitoring equipment, EKG equipment, pacers, etc.xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Re-establishes and maintains hemodynamic stability in patients experiencing hypovolemic, septic or cardiogenic shock.xc2xa0 xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Admits and recovers patients according to policy and procedure.xc2xa0xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Removes arterial line and/or femoral or radial sheath post procedure per order.xc2xa0xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Demonstrates commitment to meeting the learning needs of patients and families.xc2xa0 Utilizes appropriate resources to meetxc2xa0those needs and achieve positive patient outcomes.xc2xa0 xc2xa0
- xc2xa0Works with other nursing and clinical departments during the patientxe2x80x99s stay and takes a proactive role in coordinatingxc2xa0interdisciplinary communication between departments (Nursing, Cardiology, Radiology, Peri-Op, etc).xc2xa0

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related Bachelor of Healthcare degree. Candidates with ASN, Nursing Diploma, orxc2xa0
- equivalent and two (2) years of Cath Lab/IR experience will be considered in lieu of degree.xc2xa0xc2xa0
B.xc2xa0 Qualifications/Experiencexc2xa0
- Minimum of one (1) year of clinical nursing experience in Telemetry or Critical Care (ICU, PACU, ER) nursing withxc2xa0
- regard to regulatory guidelines and standard of practice.xc2xa0
- Minimum of six (6) months Cardiac Cath Lab experience.xc2xa0xc2xa0
- Current California Registered Nursing licensexc2xa0
- BCLS and ACLS certification requiredxc2xa0
