Description

Job Summary:

Manages human resources to maintain compliance with approved standards and guidelines for nursing care within established budget parameters. Provides clinical expertise in patient placement and communicates effectively to resolve immediate problems and promote continuity of patient care. Serves as a clinical resource for patient care activities and problem resolution.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage human resources to ensure compliance with nursing care standards and budget parameters.
  • Evaluate and adjust staffing requirements for current and following shifts.
  • Evaluate, coach, and counsel nursing personnel according to established policies.
  • Monitor adherence to time and attendance policy.
  • Provide clinical expertise in patient placement and consult on bed availability.
  • Facilitate patient movement through assessment of patient needs and coordination of transfers.
  • Communicate effectively to resolve problems and promote continuity of patient care.
  • Serve as a clinical resource for patient care activities and problem resolution.
  • Demonstrate professional judgment in response to changing patient and unit situations.
  • Monitor and evaluate standards of care.
  • Utilize the nursing process to provide patient care as necessary to meet patient and unit needs.
  • Assist in the revision and development of unit policies, procedures, and established protocols.
  • Support organizational goals through performance improvement and educational activities.
  • Identify education and training needs of personnel.
  • Assist in developing and implementing in-service programs and communicate needs appropriately.
  • Participate in performance improvement monitoring activities and assist with implementation of corrective actions.
  • Assume responsibility for own professional growth.

Exercise independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.

Working Relationship

  • Direct supervision of others.

Skills

Required Skills & Experience:

  • One to two years of related experience.
  • Working knowledge of general disease state management processes, bio-psychosocial model, and clinical pathways.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work efficiently.
  • Detail-oriented in examining clinical and numerical data.
  • Effective conflict management skills.

Education

Required Education:

  • Completion of the basic professional curricula of a school of nursing as approved and verified by a state board of nursing, holding or entitled to hold a diploma or degree therefrom.

Required Certifications & Licensure:

  • Valid multi-state or State Registered Nurse License.
