RN Educator, OB/Women's Health

Summa Health System, Akron City Hospital

Full Time, 40 Hours/Week, Days

Position Summary:

The RN Educator, OB/Women's Health designs, implements, coordinates, and evaluates educational programs that facilitate the professional growth, skill development, and competency attainment for staff across Labor & Deliver (L&D), Perinatal, OB Emergency Department, and Mother Baby. The educator serves as a clinical resource, orientation leader, and practice improvement partner for all shifts, including direct engagement with night shift staff across all units.

Key Responsibilities

Orientation & Onboarding

  • Define and continuously improve the orientation process for new hires across L&D, Perinatal, OB ED, and Mother Baby.
  • Provide hands-on clinical support during orientee onboarding and meet regularly with orientees to monitor progress; review HealthStream completion and orientation checklists.

Staff Education & Development

  • Touch night shift a minimum of twice per week for at least two hours per visit to support straight night shift staff.
  • Facilitate hands-on huddles for staff when process changes occur or new equipment is introduced.
  • Assist with adaptation and buy-in of house-wide education initiatives for all OB/Women's Health units (L&D, Perinatal, OB ED, and Mother/Baby).
  • Assist with creation of just-in-time education in response to TJC/ODH visits and any policy or process changes.
  • Assist with simulation labs and skills day.

Quality & Compliance

  • Conduct audits, participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reviews.
  • Collaborate with leadership on policy review and actively participate in policy change initiatives.
  • Coordinate with department leadership to identify and address ongoing staff education needs.

Certification & Specialty Programs

  • Maintain current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Certification relevant to women's health preferred or obtained within six months of hire.

Formal Education Required:

  • Masters Degree in Nursing, Education, or related field OR.
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or completion of a master's degree program.
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio.

Experience and Training Required

  • Current OB/Women's Health clinical experience required; experience in one or more of the following units preferred: L&D, Perinatal, OB ED, NICU, or Mother/Baby.
  • Minimum three (3) years of professional RN experience.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in adult education.

The salary range on this job posting/advertising is base salary exclusive of any bonuses or differentials. Many factors, such as years of relevant experience and geographical location are considered when determining the starting rate of pay.
