Position Statement
The ER nurse provides high-quality care to patients in the emergency department, demonstrating exceptional clinical skills, critical thinking, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
Key Responsibilities:
Triages patients based on severity of condition.
Assists with wound care, IV therapy, and other emergency interventions as ordered.
Assists with diagnostic tests and interpreting results.
Transports patients as needed for testing or admission.
Cleans and stocks rooms between patients.
Works collaboratively with physicians and other departments to ensure patient needs are met.
Updates nurse leader and/or house supervisor with any patient status changes.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Vermont or Compact State.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred. Not required.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support 9ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (TNCC), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP, Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC).
Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year in an emergency room or critical care setting.
Strong clinical skills and ability to perform under pressure.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills.
Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHR) systems.
All nurses at NCH must adhere to the NADM-Education Nursing Staff policy.
