Overview

In 1971, Yale University established Yale Health to provide health services to its facility, staff and students through a multidisciplinary health maintenance organization located on campus. Yale Health has more than 50,000 members including students, staff, faculty and their families who come from every state in the country and almost every country in the world. With over 50 years of service to the Yale community, our state-of-the-art facility at 55 Lock Street, is where our members receive most of their care from our 150+ providers. It is a 144,000 square foot medical facility with over 90 exam rooms, an Acute Care Department, a 15-bed inpatient facility with two negative pressure rooms, a diagnostic imaging suite including MR and CT scan, x-ray and ultrasound and a full-service retail pharmacy.

The Endoscopy Suite RN supports the daily clinical operations of the Yale Health Endoscopy Suite and ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care throughout the pre-procedure, intra-procedure, and post-anesthesia recovery phases in accordance with established clinical and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include:

  • Plan, organize, and coordinate clinical workflow to support optimal patient outcomes; delegate clinical responsibilities as appropriate in the absence of the Nurse Coordinator.

  • Coordinate scheduling of endoscopic procedures with designated personnel.

  • Apply accepted perioperative nursing principles and evidence-based practices to all patient care activities within the facility.

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care during all phases of the endoscopy patient experience, including pre-procedure assessment, intra-procedure monitoring and assistance, and PACU recovery care.

  • Demonstrate competency in intra-procedure nursing responsibilities, including patient monitoring, airway support, specimen handling, documentation, procedural assistance, and management of emergency situations.

  • Demonstrate competency in post-anesthesia care nursing, including hemodynamic monitoring, pain assessment and management, recovery scoring, discharge readiness evaluation, and patient/family education.

  • Foster positive and collaborative working relationships with the Medical Director, clinicians, colleagues, patients, department staff, and the Yale community.

  • Monitor the physical environment of the facility and implement measures to maintain safety, cleanliness, comfort, and order; report concerns as appropriate and adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

  • Apply material management principles to ensure proper use, cleaning, maintenance, and inventory of patient care equipment and supplies.

  • Attend meetings, seminars, and continuing education activities to remain informed of current and proposed state and federal regulations, professional standards, and best practices; assist with implementation of necessary changes.

  • Perform all CLIA-waived testing conducted within the department.

  • Maintain and promote professional competence through continuing education and participation in relevant professional organizations.

This is a 2-year Fixed Duration Position

Schedule/Shift: Monday - Friday, 24 hours per week; flexible schedule. Evenings, weekends, holiday, and recess coverage may be required based on operational needs.

Required Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of procedural sedation, airway management, and recovery care standards.

  2. Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition and medical emergencies.

  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  4. Strong organizational and prioritization abilities. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and clinical demands.

  5. Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and excellent attendance

  6. Current CPR and ACLS certification

  7. Previous endoscopy experience required.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

PACU and/or procedural sedation recovery experience.

Perioperative nursing experience and/or acute care hospital experience.

Maintains a collaborative work relationship with staff members through respect and recognition of cultural and human diversity. 6. Successfully completes the competency based orientation within designated time frame. 7. Identifies self-learning needs and actively participates in meeting them in collaboration with the leadership team. Sets and achieves professional goals. 8. Delivers excellence in patient care through compliance with all patient safety and regulatory initiatives. 9. Communicates in a calm professional manner with patients, families, colleagues, members of the care team, and other hospital personnel, accepts and elicits feedback, and works toward resolving problems and clarifying issues and concerns. 10. Uses resources in a fiscally sound manner. 11. Compliance with University, State and federal healthcare regulations. Required Education and Experience Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. Required License(s) or Certification(s) Licensure as a registered nurse in the State of Connecticut. Physical Requirements May require prolonged standing, walking, use of sight, hearing and touch, moving/lifting patients of varying weights. Requires keyboard use and ability to sit in front of a computer screen for long periods of time.
