House Supervisor (RN)

PRN | Nursing Supervision

What You'll Do

As a House Supervisor, you will provide clinical leadership and operational oversight for hospital nursing services during assigned shifts. You will coordinate patient care activities, support nursing staff, collaborate with physicians and department leaders, and ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care throughout the organization.

In this role, you will:

• Provide oversight and support for clinical operations across nursing units and hospital departments.
• Supervise and support RNs, LPNs, CNAs, and other clinical team members to ensure quality patient care.
• Coordinate staffing resources and make adjustments based on patient census, acuity, and operational needs.
• Assign and delegate patient care responsibilities according to staff competencies, qualifications, and patient needs.
• Serve as a clinical resource and mentor, providing guidance and support to nursing staff in patient care situations.
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians, providers, department leaders, and other healthcare team members to promote coordinated care.
• Monitor nursing operations and identify opportunities for improvement consistent with organizational policies and procedures.
• Exercise primary responsibility for managing hospital operations during times when administrative leadership is unavailable.
• Assess patients' physical, psychological, social, and environmental needs as required to support patient care delivery.
• Administer medications, blood products, and treatments in accordance with physician or advanced practice provider orders.
• Recognize and interpret cardiac rhythms and implement appropriate nursing interventions according to ACLS protocols and organizational policies.
• Investigate, document, and communicate staffing concerns, patient care issues, and operational challenges while ensuring appropriate follow-up and resolution.
• Maintain patient confidentiality and protect sensitive organizational information.
• Provide exceptional customer service through the use of AIDET, hourly rounding, bedside reporting, prompt response to patient needs, and other organizational service standards.
• Support staff development by completing required competencies, educational activities, and clinical certifications.
• Complete orientation requirements and maintain competency in all assigned responsibilities.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Required Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Education

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Current Iowa Registered Nurse (RN) license or license from a reciprocating state
• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, and STABLE certifications within one year of hire

Preferred Licenses & Certifications

• Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) certification
• Specialty certification in area of clinical expertise

Preferred Experience

• Two to three years of acute care nursing experience
• Previous leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience preferred
