RN – ICU | Travel Assignment

Facility Information

  • Beds: 109 licensed beds
  • Trauma Level: None
  • Teaching Hospital: No
  • Certification: Advanced Primary Stroke Center

Unit Details

  • Unit: ICU (10 ICU beds, 4 PCU surge beds)
  • Average Daily Census: 7.3 patients
  • Experience Required: 18 months–2 years of ICU RN experience
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted

Patient Population

Care for adult patients with:

  • Sepsis
  • COPD
  • CHF
  • Chest Pain
  • MI/NSTEMI
  • Stroke/TIA
  • Cardiac arrhythmias
  • Uncontrolled diabetes/DKA
  • Minor trauma
  • Alcohol withdrawal
  • ARDS
  • Respiratory illnesses (Flu, COVID, etc.)

Staffing & Ratios

  • RN Ratio: 1:2–3 (acuity based; assignments may include ICU and Med/Tele patients)
  • CNA: 1:10 on days; not available overnight
  • Charge Nurse: In staffing

Required Certifications

  • Active RN License
  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Required Skills

  • Stroke assessments and NIH protocols
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Arterial lines & CVP monitoring
  • Critical care and cardiac drip titration
  • Heparin and blood product administration
  • Chest tubes
  • Peripheral IV insertion
  • TNK administration (when applicable)
  • Ventilator management (RT manages settings)
  • Tracheostomy care
  • NG/Dobhoff tube placement and management
  • PEG tubes, JP drains, Hemovac drains, Foley catheters, Flexi-Seal
  • PCA pumps
  • Wound care
  • 12-lead EKG acquisition

Floating

Required based on staffing needs within Region 1 and scope of practice. Possible assignments include:

  • ICU
  • PCU
  • Med/Tele
  • ED Holds
  • Behavioral Health (medication administration/charting only)

Travel time between facilities during a shift is paid.

Orientation

  • New Employee Orientation (NEO)
  • 2–3 days of unit orientation

Schedule

  • Shift: 12-hour Nights
  • Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Weekly Hours: 36
  • Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
  • Call: None
  • Holidays: Travelers work 75% of holidays
  • Schedule Posted: Every 6 weeks
